Greens Announce New Green Party Cabinet Members

OTTAWA — The Green Party of Canada is pleased to announce seven new members of the Shadow Cabinet.  “Our Cabinet is full of dedicated and incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable people and we appreciate them giving time toward providing critique on policy matters for the benefit of all Canadians,” said Deputy Green Leader Adriane Carr.
The new Industry Critic is Ottawa resident Jen Hunter, a professional facilitator and professor at Algonquin College in the Green Business Management Post-Graduate Program.  Also from the Ottawa region and taking on the Small Business portfolio is Jean-Luc Cooke, founder of a successful information security consultancy firm.  Vanessa Long is the new critic for Social Services, bringing her passion for environmental health and her wealth of experience with schooling and caregiving of both the elderly and children.
Brian Timlick of Manitoba, having been active in the labour movement in Manitoba for many years, including sitting on the Board of Directors of Manitoba Government Employee Union, will take on the portfolio of Labour and Employment.  New Critic for Infrastructure and Community Development is Ralph Torrie, an expert in the field of energy and environment with over 30 years of entrepreneurial and consulting experience that includes hundreds of initiatives in research, business development, and advocacy.
Emma Jane Hogbin builds on-line communities and works with not-for-profit organizations on the implementation of technology-facilitated communications and will bring her technical knowledge to the portfolio of Science & Technology.  The Critic position of Public Works and Government Services will be capably filled by Chris Hill, award-winning fleet manager for the Public Works Department in the City of Hamilton.
“The Green Party is increasingly attracting people who are well-known and have found incredible success in their field. Each of our Cabinet members brings a unique set of skills, knowledge and experience which will enable them to bring a critical eye and voice to policies that Canadians care about,” said Green Leader Elizabeth May.
